Eighteen Rabbit is one of our favourite stockists; a stylish independent retailer selling Fairtrade arts, crafts and gifts situated in Hay-On-Wye, a beautiful Fairtrade town in Wales. Louise and Andrew co founded the business after travelling Mexico and Central America extensively – after witnessing poverty, they wanted to do something to help make a difference to the people they had met, so Eighteen Rabbit was created. The shop stocks beautiful, often handmade artisan products, with a focus on style and design.
“We know that we can’t change the world overnight, and that we’re only playing a small part in the way our global economy develops. We understand that it’s easy to be cynical, or to question the value of using trade as a tool for social change. Nevertheless we’re committed to creating relationships with our producers to give them a platform to show the world what they are capable of. The stories they tell, and the incredible items they produce, are living proof of the value of making trade fair.”
Hay-On-Wye is also home to the Hay Festival which is a huge literary event that takes place every year, this year from 21st – 31st May. During the ten day festival, outside Eighteen Rabbit, Andrew and Louise will be running a Fairtrade tea stand in conjunction with Cafe Direct, which was a big success during last year’s festival. So if you are at the festival in need of refreshment, head to the Castle!
