Just Trade are supporting Southern Exposure this Friday for a night of Peruvian Food, Drink, Music and Prizes! All proceeds go to support those affected by the terrible flooding in Peru earlier this year.
The last couple of months have been hard for Peru. The country, and in particular the north, suffered from severe rainfall and floods. As a result, at least 100,000 people were left homeless, whole communities were cut off by mudslides, and authorities reported food and drinking water shortages in many areas. The floods may have stopped but there is still a long road ahead. Communities have been left exposed to health hazards and disease - we are now hearing of outbreaks of Dengue fever. All proceeds from the evening will go to aid the people of Nuro, a fishing village in Piura, Northern Peru. Southern Exposure have chosen this location because they have direct access to their residents through volunteers who live in the area - ensuring any help will go directly to the villagers. The money raised will cover a fumigation campaign to help prevent mosquitoes spreading disease and will support other health related initiatives.
