What is Fair Trade?
Fair trade is a trading partnership based on dialogue, transparency and
respect that seeks greater equality within international trade.
It contributes to sustainable develop- ment by offering better trading
conditions to marginalized producers and
workers in the developing world.
Fair trade aims to improve the
livelihoods of producers who would otherwise be excluded from business
by conventional trading structures.
By paying a fair price for their goods whilst helping them gain
necessary business skills, fair trade companies are able to help
producers gain dignity through work and escape from poverty.
Fair trade proves that greater justice in
world trade is possible. It highlights the need for change in the rules
and practice of conventional trade and shows how a successful business
can also put people first.
